Hawk errors give South Sevier win
3-12-08
MONROE, Sevier County—The North Sanpete Hawks took to the field for the first time this season—and it showed—as the Hawks committed five errors and gave up four walks and six hits to drop a 9-2 decision to the 2A South Sevier Rams.
Two of the Ram hits were for extra bases with a double coming from Nathan Roberts, and Michael Durson hitting a triple.
The Hawks could only muster four hits. Karl Bailey hit a double and pitcher Shaun Seely hit a yard ball over the left field fence. The other two hits were singles.
The Hawks stranded 14 runners du to errors and walks.
South Sevier scored first when Seth Taft hit a single and after moving to third was brought to the plate by an error in the Hawks’ center field.
The Rams again had a runner cross the plate in the third when an error, stolen base, and a single put Zach Blackham past home.
The Hawks’ first score was Seely’s dinger, and with the Rams up 4-1 in the fifth inning, North Sanpete manufactured another run when Taylor Ricks earned a base on balls and was moved around by a hit batsman, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly from Tyler Daniels.
The game stayed close until the bottom of the sixth inning when South Sevier batted around the lineup and scored five runs to put the contest out of reach.
North Sanpete will travel to take on the North Sevier Wolves today.
