GUNNISON—For some basketball is only a sport, but for three Lady Bulldogs it is a deeply rooted family tradition.
Teigan Jensen, Bailie Reynolds and Gentry Jensen, all cousins, have grown up playing ball with and against each other, talking about ball at family gatherings and just thinking about ball on their downtime.
The focus of basketball throughout their lives has become apparent, as each of the girls has been on at least one of the top 10 stat lists for the state this season.
Teigan, who is 6-foot-1, naturally has demonstrated a prowess for rebounding. For at least one week she led the state in total rebounds.
Bailie and Gentry have been neck and neck all season for assists and steals.
The girls said it is fun playing together while in high school. Up until last year Gentry had lived and played for Richfield teams.
Teigan and Bailie said it was fun to play against their cousin while growing up, but they were very happy to have her on their team.
Looking back on all their years in basketball the girls said their favorite moment together was when the Lady Bulldogs beat Juab in last year’s region playoff game. The reason, they said, was because everyone pulled together so much during that game.
Prospects for this year’s finish are very bright, said the girls. “The team is still learning to pull together, but I think at the end of the season we are going to surprise a lot of people,” Teigan said.
She further said up to this point in the year the basketball team has been learning how to really work together as a team, but things are starting to click.
Future plans for all of the girls differ, but are the same on one point. None of the girls are initially planning on taking their basketball careers beyond high school.
Each of the girls said although they love the game they have other things they are interested in doing.
Teigan is thinking of going to cosmetology school in Cedar City, and then pursuing a career in the medical field.
Bailie is contemplating going to either Weber State or Snow College to study radiology.
Gentry said she is considering going in the pharmaceutical field or possibly looking into computer drafting, but for now she plans on enjoying her time playing basketball and riding in rodeos during the off season.
