NS District trains custodians and
principals on cleanliness standards

MT. PLEASANT—The North Sanpete School District has held training for custodians and plans follow-up meetings with principals to help all parties understand the district’s building cleanliness standards.
This issue came up at the June meeting of the North Sanpete School Board. Board members wanted to know if it was really necessary to hire “sweepers” to assist building custodians.
Board member Greg Bailey said he heard about an instance when a coach mowed the lawn of a playing field himself because the custodian claimed to be too busy to do it.
Superintendent Courtney Syme said in some instances custodians have spent some of their custodial hours coaching sports.
The district has hired sweepers to take up the slack. But inspections have shown that the buildings’ cleanliness has suffered.
The purpose of the recent training was to make sure custodians know what is expected, the superintendent said, adding, “We’ll be monitoring our buildings a little more closely.” |
