Manti Messenger and Ephraim Enterprise

The Sanpete Messenger traces its history to the Manti Messenger, which published its first issue Oct. 13, 1893, and the Ephraim Enterprise, which began publication Sept. 16, in 1891. From the 1890s to 1925, the newspapers were under separate ownerships.
From 1925-2000, three different publishers owned the newspapers. Roscoe Cox owned them from 1925-1960. Larry Stahle owned the newspapers from 1960-1972. And Max Call owned them from 1972-2000.
All three publishers published the Manti Messenger and Ephraim Enterprise under separate nameplates.

Messenger-Enterprise

On April 13, 2000, Call combined the nameplates and began publishing a newspaper called the Messenger-Enterprise. In November 2000, Suzanne Dean bought the Messenger-Enterprise and continued publishing under that title until September 2003. However, Dean did not begin archiving the newspaper in electronic from until Aug. 2, 2001.

Sanpete Messenger

On Sept. 25, 2003, Dean extended coverage to all of Sanpete County and changed the name from the Messenger-Enterprise to the Sanpete Messenger.

Gunnison Valley News

The first edition of the Gunnison Valley News was published May 2, 1919. Various publishers continued publishing under that name until 2004. At this time, no issues of the Gunnison Valley News are available on-line.

Sanpete Messenger-Gunnison Valley Edition

On Sept. 8, 2004, Suzanne Dean took control of the Gunnison Valley News, discontinued that title and began publishing the Sanpete Messenger-Gunnison Valley Edition.
