Sheldon E. Edmunds passed away July 24, 2008 at his daughter’s home in Fountain Green following an extended illness.
Sheldon was born Aug. 6, 1926 to Edmund James Edmunds and Anna Thompson of Wales, Utah. He spent his youth being raised in Spring City.
Sheldon served nine years in the U.S. Army including duty in Korea during the Korean conflict. He was very proud of his opportunity to serve in the support of our country.
He married Hannah Collard on Aug. 15, 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Dec. 14, 1963. Following thazeir marriage they lived in Provo until he moved to Fountain Green following Hannah’s passing in 1996.
He loved living back in Sanpete and was famous for making the rounds and keeping an eye on the doings in the county. Many will miss his visits.
He worked as a contract bus driver making many trips back to Palmyra taking tour groups to the Hill Cumorah Pageant as well as taking tour groups to the genealogical library in Salt Lake City.
He then became a professional long haul truck driver working for Deseret Pharmaceutical, Norton Foods and SMP Trucking. He won numerous awards for his safety and quality of driving. Following his move back to Fountain Green he worked for the city and loved his work and took personal pride in caring for the city park.
He is survived by his two daughters: Shelith (Mike) Jacobson of Fountain Green and Cheryl (Bob) Goff of Sandy, Utah, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as a brother, Jack (Bertha) Edmunds of Spring City and a sister, Pearl White of Grass Valley, Calif. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces who he loved and enjoyed immensely.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, and by his brothers, Fred and Allen and sisters, Leota, Ilena, Melba, Eva May, Mary LaFawn.
A graveside service was held in the Fountain Green City Cemetery on Monday the July 28, 2008 followed by interment with military honors under the care of Rasmussen Mortuary.
The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists and care-givers of Central Valley Medical Center who provided many, many hours of compassionate and professional care.
