Community, get on board with Wyatt’s vision
11-14-07

If Snow College President Scott Wyatt’s administration is as successful as his inauguration was last week, his vision for the college will surely become reality.
Per Wyatt’s instruction, the inauguration was not to be a celebration of Wyatt the person, but of Snow College. His goal was to show how great the school is, and he did.
Spectators at the inauguration ceremony were truly instilled with button-busting Badger pride.
The fact that Wyatt decided to forego the personal tributes to shine the spotlight on the college shows that he is worth the honor he might have otherwise received.
Wyatt is a Snow College president whose time has come.
After the Gerald Day and Michael Benson years of building the physical body of the campus, it is time to build the school’s student body. Wyatt understands that.
With Wyatt, there is a sense that those who have come before put the framework in place, the infrastructure for Snow to be all that it can be.
When Wyatt speaks, it is unmistakable that he feels a great sense of mission and purpose, and has the determination and confidence to achieve his vision.
Let’s help him by putting the “community” more fully into “community college.”
Snow College is one of the defining institutions in Sanpete County. It is one of the top two or three things that make Sanpete what it is, that make us who we are.
Get involved with the college. Go to its events. There is scarcely an event on campus that is not designed with the public in mind, or even intended for public participation.
It was gratifying to see nearly 3,000 people fill up the Activity Center last Wednesday to see the Terry Fator ventriloquist performance.
It has been inspiring to see crowds piling into Badger Stadium, spilling out onto the adjacent lawns, to see the nation’s No. 1 junior-college football team, the Badgers.
Let’s expand on that to include other athletics, the performing arts and other cultural events, such as the weekly Thursday convocations.
If you are an alum, when the alumni association gets functioning, another of Wyatt’s goals, get involved with it.
Businesses, sponsor the college in ways that you can that are appropriate.
Last week’s inauguration pointed out what a jewel we have in Snow College, something sometimes lost on us because the college is ever present.
We welcome and congratulate President Wyatt, endorse his vision and implore all of Sanpete County to get on board with him and to more fully support Snow College.
And, go Badgers!
