MANTI—The restaurant next door to the Country Village Motel has a new look, a new brand and a new atmosphere.
The new owners, Gary and Becky Day from Milburn, plan to open their restaurant, Stockmen’s Grill, Monday Aug. 4 with an all-you-care-to-eat spaghetti buffet, complete with salad and bread sticks.
They are calling the event Mama Mia Monday. In fact, they plan to observe Mama Mia Monday, with the spaghetti buffet, every Monday.
Gary is of Italian descent and is proud of his family traditions.
“We want this to be a different restaurant, family-oriented, very comfortable, where kids and families can sit down to a pleasant meal,” he says.
Gary has been a meat inspector and consequently understands food handling and the need for cleanliness.
“More than anything else we want a clean, wholesome, family environment here,” Becky said. She believes her experience managing a family business in Highland, Utah County for the past 23 years has given her the know-how to run a successful business.
The Days both come from entrepreneurial families and say they are committed to making their restaurant the best in Sanpete.
The Days looked at restaurants all through Central Utah and Utah County before choosing the Manti location.
“We are optimistic and excited,” Gary said. “This place has a great location, and Manti has a wonderful, inspiring history. We want to be part of it and make our own good mark on the community.”
To complete their stockman’s grill theme, they are seeking local farm brands and a little history to go with them. Bringing one in can earn you a free dessert.
“We live in an agricultural community, and we want our restaurant to reflect those roots,” Gary said.
The Days have three children, Hadley, 19, Tucker, 12, and Lizzie, 3.
“Our kids will probably get to spend a lot of time here with us,” Becky said.
A grand opening is planned for September. The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and closed Sunday.
