GUNNISON— The bluegrass folk group Cold Creek will perform at Gunnison Valley High School on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m., sponsored by the Casino Star Theatre.
Cold Creek, which features guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin, will “fiddle, pick and strum” through its performance, says Casino Star representative Diana Spencer.
The group will appear at the Snow College Convocation earlier the same day at the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts.
Various band members have won first and second place in guitar, and second place in mandolin at the Utah State Fiddle and Mandolin Competition; been named the 2003 Utah banjo champion; been the featured songwriter in Tim O’Brien’s Songwriter’s Showcase; and been three-time Utah fiddle champion.
The group’s website, www.coldcreekband.com, states, “Audience members described a very original sound, combining some elements of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Alison Krauss and Union Station, and Mountain Heart.”
The concert was previously scheduled for the Casino Star, but was relocated to Gunnison Valley High School because of renovation and continued gasoline leak issues.
Cold Creek will appear through the partnership of the Utah Arts Council Performing Arts Tour, the Casino Star Theatre Foundation and the Snow College Convocation program.
The concert is a fundraiser for the theater restoration. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. For information, contact Spencer at (435) 979-2798.
