EPHRAIM—According to brothers Brandon and Dean Olson, Sanpete County has been in need of a full-service sporting goods store for a long time.
“I’ve encouraged others to open one,” said Brandon, “But no one would do it.”
Recently they decided that with Brandon’s accounting experience and Dean’s six years as an employee of Sportsman’s Warehouse they were as qualified as anyone to run such a store. The result is Mtn Man Outdoors, 487 S. Main, Ephraim, a facility that the Olsons consider the only full-fledged sporting goods retail outlet in the area.
“There’s no other store like it in the county,” said Dean. The store features a full-service archery pro shop including a shooting range.
Dean will be in charge of the everyday operation of the store. “There couldn’t be a more savvy guy,” said Brandon.
What will make this store unique will be its ability to offer the same products as stores up north along with “Sanpete knowledge and service,” Brandon said.
Shoppers will find firearms, archery equipment, fishing supplies, camping gear, recreational clothing and footwear.
“Recreation is the number one hobby in Sanpete,” said Brandon. “Our customers will have high standards. We hope to meet or exceed those expectations.”
Although the store is not yet fully stocked, the store is open and products are coming in on a daily basis. Mtn Man Outdoors has a good supply of ice fishing gear on hand as well as supplies for pursuing varmints and spring turkey.
Beginning Monday, Jan. 14, store hours will be 9 a.m.-7 p.m., with the grand opening scheduled for Feb. 15-18.
The brothers are still looking for some quality employees as well as mounted game to display in the store. “This is a good chance for wives to get their husband’s hunting trophies out of the dining room,” Brandon said.
